Energy efficient home extensions
Whatever the intended use, an extension gives you the freedom to build the home you've always wanted, without the costs and upheaval involved in moving. Executing yours with Fordham Restoration Services Ltd means a new, versatile space that's energy efficient. To achieve this, we use quality materials from names such as Celotex and Rockwool or Kingspan, leading each installation with care.
We'll also look to incorporate energy efficient upgrades, such as air source heat pumps (ASHP) instead of traditional gas boilers - an excellent idea if you live in a rural area without gas - underfloor heating (UFH), which saves wall space and allows you to have your heat source set to 19 degrees rather than 20 or 21, and triple-glazed windows for all north and east facing elevations, with double-glazed for south and west. Take a look at our project gallery for real-life results.

Elevating homes in Cambridge since 2004
The start of your home alteration
Drawings: An essential for any structural project, we only build from drawings completed by an Architect or Architectural Drawer. This will help with regulations and help our build teams ensure you get exactly what you want. We can recommend good Architects, Architectural Drawers and Structural Engineers in Cambridge, if you wish.
Building regulations: Most home extensions and loft conversions are covered under the 'permitted development' regulations meaning that you do not need planning permission. But most will still come under the planning legislation, so they still require a building regulations application. Once you contact an Architect or Architectural Drawer and discuss your vision, they can advise what you will need. For further information, check-out your local council's website, such as www.cambridge.gov.uk/planning-applications
During and after the project
Building Regulations (During the project): At key stages during the build, the Building Regulator will come to your house and 'sign off' the completed works, assuring these have been done to the correct standards. If it is difficult for you to be at home for these visits, we are happy to meet with the Building Regulator.
Building Regulations (After the project): Once the project is completed you will receive a building certificate. This lets you, as well as potential future owners of the house, know that the building project has been carried out to meet building regulation standards and that this is verified by an experienced, knowledgeable and responsible third party. This certificate must be kept safe, as you will need it when you come to sell your home.
Party wall agreements
If you are building within 3m of your boundary, you will need a party wall agreement. It is always best to have a chat to your neighbours first, to let them know what you are planning. After this, you can draft a 'party wall agreement'. Some neighbours will be happy to sign your letter after looking at your plans, others might want to appoint their own surveyor to ensure their home is not unduly impacted. "From start to finish, the project was managed professionally and efficiently. They kept to their timetable and were always upfront and honest if our choices in design were impractical and offered good alternative solutions. All the guys working on the extension were considerate and courteous, which was greatly appreciated as we were living in the house during the building work. The extension turned exactly how we wanted it and done to a high degree of workmanship. I am hoping to have our bathroom refitted next year and they will be the first people I call for a quote."
